Looking into the window and trying to see if what I perceive is really there . . .

Pre-pre-departure
I'm going to be in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala for five weeks (completing my final three credit hours in Latin American Studies, my minor). I hope for this to serve as a window to me for my loved ones in the States. The purpose of this blog is open-ended and expected to be multidisciplinary, as it has changed from its original one. When I created it originally, I thought it would be my medium for writing short fictional stories, but alas, I was all talk and no action. I may write in Spanish or English (mainly English), about Guate or about some figment of my imagination (that will probably be inspired by my surroundings in this new and extraordinary country). I have a lot of preparation to do beforehand (especially reviewing my Spanish up til now) because Dr. Henne says that I’ll probably understand about 30% of what’s spoken to me. And, hopefully, by the end of my time there, I’ll be able to grasp 60%. Daunting, but I think I can do it. I’m going to miss Jesse, of course, but this is something that I need to do. I want to learn more about internet options, and I need to call at&t so if I can/how to use my phone. So I’m leaving on the evening of 6 June and returning a day before Jesse's birthday. July 12.
P.S., I want to put a cool photo header up like Emily's.
